Wasaga Beach truly comes alive in summer. It has been the destination of beach and sun worshippers since the invention of the car. But, when you are waiting for your bathing suit to dry-out, what else might you do while you are here?
The options are incredible!
In writing about the area over the last 20 years, I have often spoken about Wasaga Beach as part of a greater tourist community called the "Georgian Triangle". You really aren't enjoying all we have to offer unless you consider the area as a whole. I'll start with things to do in Wasaga Beach, but I'll also talk about the area at large.
Looking for something to do this Canada Day weekend in Wasaga Beach? There are plenty of events here and in neighbouring towns to choose from. Here is a list of events that I'm aware of for this upcoming weekend:
A couple of years ago the township of Clearview began a music and market series to showcase local farm goods and the wares of local artisans and cooks. Vendors sell everything from locally-grown fruits and vegetables to hand-made jewelry, delicious Jamaican food, Argentinian food, Pierogi's, Fresh Lemonade, hand-made baby clothes, cool & kitschy household items and of course handmade soaps & candles made by your humble webmaster Darlene Watters.
A typical May 2-4 weekend will see the arrival of thousands of high school aged young adults, most looking to let their hair down, have fun and break a few rules. Ahhhh, to be young again! <sigh!> A party in Wasaga Beach is a right of passage for many Ontario youth, but what happens if your party gets out of control and you are evicted?
Yes, the popular electronic music festival is back for another year! Now and then I get emails from people who describe their memories of Summers in Wasaga. It's incredible to hear about the history of this town. The following is from an email sent to me by Ron Mitchell.
I spent a great part of me childhood at Wasaga Beach with my family in the summer starting 48 years back when you could still drive on the beach and the population was around 6,000. The reason I reached out to you was 35 years ago I worked at a Go Kart track across from the Beacon and I used to go to go there on my lunch and sit at the counter eating fries with gravy, a Vanilla shake and talk to owner Guy.
Start Time: Sat May 14 2016 1:00:00 PM, End Time: Sat May 14 2016 4:00:00 PM
Location: Rec Plex - 1724 Mosley Street
The Town of Wasaga Beach will be honouring the contributions of its citizens on May 14, 2016 at Wasaga's Finest Citizens Awards.
