A few new year-round restaurants have opened in Wasaga Beach recently. Don Cherry's at Beach 1 in the Foodland plaza, St Louis bar & grill at 45th and a spiffy new Starbucks beside St Louis'. It's nice to have these extra choices.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention some of our favourite stand-by's. The Beacon - for great entertainment and good food, Little Marina if you craze homemade Italian fare, Pizza Dee's - a local favourite for pizza and more. There's ice cream places dotted from west to east; Ice Cream Shack and Food Rescue (near the west roundabout), Lorna Dune's, Normie's, Wasaga Music & Ice Cream (yeah, I know it's weird but hey, it's Wasaga), Dairy Queen. We are well covered!
Join us on Friday, July 21 at 10:00 a.m. to get the butts off Wasaga Beach! Cigarette butts, that is.
Did you know that cigarette butts are the most littered item on Canadian beaches? Even when beaches are cleaned every day, cigarette butts are too small for standard equipment to pick up. They don’t biodegrade, so they stick around and leach toxic chemicals into the sand and water. That is, until they are picked up and ingested by wildlife — or a curious child.
We've teamed up with the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation to create a free toolkit to help communities stamp out cigarette butt litter. And thanks to Ontario Parks, the Environment Network, and Georgian Bay Forever, Wasaga Beach is using this toolkit to become butt free.
Come and learn more about the Butt-free Beach campaign, and help us stamp out cigarette butt litter.
Please remember to wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

Coffee lovers of Wasaga Beach rejoice, Starbucks has come to town. Located on 45th Street just south of Mosley St. on the west side opposite the Canadian Superstore. I'm a big fan of Starbucks and up until now have had to drive to Collingwood for my Coffee fix.
Espresso, cappuccino, frappuccino and more, now right here in the Beach. Free wifi of course, comfortable seating and an outdoor patio as well.
In addition, right next door, a St. Louis Bar & Grill is getting ready to open their doors. Known for their great Chicken Wings and more, this new Restaurant is also a welcome addition for residents and visitors to the Longest Fresh Water Beach in the world.
Wasaga Beach truly comes alive in summer. It has been the destination of beach and sun worshippers since the invention of the car. But, when you are waiting for your bathing suit to dry-out, what else might you do while you are here?
The options are incredible!
In writing about the area over the last 20 years, I have often spoken about Wasaga Beach as part of a greater tourist community called the "Georgian Triangle". You really aren't enjoying all we have to offer unless you consider the area as a whole. I'll start with things to do in Wasaga Beach, but I'll also talk about the area at large.
Looking for something to do this Canada Day weekend in Wasaga Beach? There are plenty of events here and in neighbouring towns to choose from. Here is a list of events that I'm aware of for this upcoming weekend:
A couple of years ago the township of Clearview began a music and market series to showcase local farm goods and the wares of local artisans and cooks. Vendors sell everything from locally-grown fruits and vegetables to hand-made jewelry, delicious Jamaican food, Argentinian food, Pierogi's, Fresh Lemonade, hand-made baby clothes, cool & kitschy household items and of course handmade soaps & candles made by your humble webmaster Darlene Watters.
A typical May 2-4 weekend will see the arrival of thousands of high school aged young adults, most looking to let their hair down, have fun and break a few rules. Ahhhh, to be young again! <sigh!> A party in Wasaga Beach is a right of passage for many Ontario youth, but what happens if your party gets out of control and you are evicted?
