Wow! They made it! Wasaga Beach Lions has made the final $15,000 payment to complete the $200,000 pledge for the Wasaga Beach Oakview Recplex. When the town was preparing the plans and application for the Governments Building program, the town was required to raise $2 milliion dollars.

The Wasaga Beach Lions Club originally pledged $150,000 then the town came back to them and asked or an additional $50,000 so that the town could meet their requirements. Being the community minded club that they are, they stepped up to the plate and raise their pledge to $200,000! The Wasaga Beach Lions Club would like to thank everyone who supported their Home and Garden shows, pancake breakfasts; BBQ’s and those who rented their Lions Hall for their family events. With everyone’s help, they were able to reach their goal.

A special thanks goes out to all the members of the Wasaga Beach Lions Club for the endless hours of community service that they have committed to this project. With these efforts, the entire community can enjoy the facilities that we have in our town.

The Club has achieved this goal while still upholding their other projects within our community including the food bank, youth centre, my friends house, habitat for humanity, kinettes toy drive just to mention a few.

I thought that I would add a little history lesson for us all of the contributions of the Wasaga Beach Lions Club to the Oakview Recplex. In 1984 – donated $100,000 to build the Prime time club and co-op daycare portion of the building. In 1986 - $3,500 for the sign at the road (which has recently been replaced) Also $1,500 for an engineering bill for the Oakview. 1987 - $79,000 to add the Lions Den to
the building which is now part of Prime Time Club. 1986 - $2,500 to paint the Oakview room. 1994 -$1,400 for Oakview improvements with another $2,000 in year 2000. This totals to $210,900 in addition to the fullfilling of our $200,000 pledge!

If you think that you would like to belong to a worldwide service organization and being able to help right in your own community, you should come and see what the Wasaga Beach Lions Club is all about.
