First Annual Back to the Beach Festival!
At one time, the historic Main Street of Wasaga Beach was a thriving centre of activity for visitors and locals who enjoyed shopping, entertainment, dining and all the good things that summer at the beach provided, with the beautiful beach as a back drop. Over the years, this section of Main Street became a less used pedestrian mall, stores and dining establishments left the area and then... a devastating fire leveled most of the nostalgic buildings that had kept people happy for decades. Since the fire, this short stretch of Main Street has simply been a little used "pathway" to get from the Main Street Bridge to the busy Beach Area One of Wasaga Beach.
On August 11 & 12, 2012, Beach BOOSTER Promotions will bring back the fun and excitement of yesteryear on this stretch of Main Street. Back to The BEACH event will remind all with memories of the good old days of Wasaga Beach that fun and entertainment can come back to The Beach! We will have music from the 60's, 70's and 80's creating a family friendly atmosphere on a once again busy Main Street. Vendors will line a portion of the avenue, representing the shopping that once was an important part of this street. Exciting shows with a summer beach theme will entertain visitors of all ages. Saturday evening, open air dancing under the stars will take place, with the sounds of Big Band Music once again heard over the sands of Wasaga Beach... reminding us of the glory days of Big Bands playing at our historic Dardanella Dance Pavilion. (built 1918)
Back to The BEACH will be promoted as a street festival to draw folks back to The Beach, who perhaps have not visited Wasaga Beach in years. It will appeal to the local residents of Wasaga Beach (17,000 plus) by reminding them they too can enjoy the beachfront... and of course draw from the 500,000 plus that visit the Main Beach area on any summer weekend and encourage them up to our Main Street activities!
