Yoga At The BeachOn Monday,  I attended my very first Yoga On The Beach class which is sponsored by Olea Health.

I have to admit I was a little nervous about this and I almost talked myself out of not going because I'm in my late 40's, I was afraid the class would be full of young flexible women and I know that my body isn't what it used to be. There is every excuse in the world to avoid something like this - at least that is what I told myself.

YouthI get the largest volume of emails and phonecalls from young people looking for a place to let loose and have fun. With May "2-4" behind us, the next mass influx of youth to Wasaga Beach is the "after-proms" or simply "proms" as they're often called. Prom getaways are an important part of youth culture. For many students, it is the last time they will see some of their school chums. The next step is college or work, or perhaps even marriage and children.  It has become a rite of passage for students to engage in one last brew-ha-ha. Where better than Wasaga Beach?

GreyhoundThe temperature is climbing in the city and you are dreaming about a weekend away to cool off. Anyone who has lived in a city knows that some summer days are stale and polluted and just well... unpleasant.

If you live in Toronto, you can head to Kew Beach but it's crowded, and there is no parking and let's face it, there is nothing like the feeling of spending a day at the beach knowing that when you have had enough sun, sand and swimming, you are going back to your little air-cooled cottage to bbq some burgers and then spend the evening dancing at the nightclubs. If you don't have a car, you have to depend on your own two feet and very few places have all of these things within walking distance. But you have to have a car to get to Wasaga Beach, don't you? Nope! Greyhound bus offers daily trips (twice a day) to Wasaga Beach. Your excuses are busted!

A few brave souls have thrown their hats into the political ring so far. Steven Fishman, a resident who is no stranger to the political arena with his letters to the Editor often seen in the Wasaga Sun.  Donna Mullen, a local mortgage consultant has indicated her interest in the job of Deputy Mayor. Incumbents David Foster (Deputy Mayor) and Cal Patterson (Mayor) will be trying for another term.(source: 977thebeach.ca)

CheerleadersYou may have heard some news lately about the Beach 1 development which has gone bust. Blue Beach Corporation owns a handful of prime real estate in the Beach 1 area including the Dard and Bananas - the two most popular nightclubs. There is a lot of speculation about what will be open in time for summer and which businesses will remain closed.

As of May 24 (the long weekend), it appears that the Dard and Bananas will manage to open. I have no word yet about the CopaCabana. The Sandbar is under new management (taken over by its previous owners) and is trying to renovate the bar in time for a July opening.

Elsewhere, it seems even those businesses not attached to the Levy brothers are having just as tough a time. Cheerleaders, a bar on Main Street that was opened just a few short years ago (perhaps three years?) has closed. Sadly, this was the only bar that tried to continue a tradition of live music. It would seem live music, especially rock is dead.

If you remember to look to the skys between 2:30 and 5 p.m. today, you might see some interesting aircraft heading towards the Collingwood Airport. The aircraft are a part of an interprovincial air tour hosted by the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA).

The pilots will be staying at the Mountain Springs Hotel if you have an interest in meeting them in person.

Sunday, the plane will take off for Owen sound early (8-9 a.m.).

Dome The Dome has been covered this week. No word on when events will begin. We are bracing for a warmer than usual summer and hopefully a good tourist season.

Don't believe the negative news you may have read in Toronto news sources. Wasaga Beach is open, there is still plenty to do and the natural beauty of the 14 km long beach is as wonderful as always.
