November 30, 2007, fire rips through the Main Street Mall in Wasaga Beach. The fire claimed some of Wasaga Beach's oldest buildings. Nobody was hurt but the historic mall, which was once the downtown hub of Wasaga Beach where residents would go to buy everything from clothing to pharmaceuticals, was almost completely destroyed. It was a sad event.

Almost 2 years have passed since then.

Are you on Facebook? Wasaga Beach needs you now. With the recession in full swing and people having less to spend on things like vacations, some of our businesses are worried. You can help by joining our Facebook Group and telling your friends that Wasaga Beach is the place to go for summer fun.

Believe it or not, a lot of people have never been here. Although most Ontarians are aware of Wasaga Beach, sensationalized press (especially about the fire in 2007, Sars, and Wakestock) have caused great harm to our little town. But our doors are still open and our businesses are here to welcome you.

Help us to spread the word. Join our Facebook group, recommend it to your friends.

Take A Peaceful Walk Down Shore Lane

Well, I hope I'm not getting ahead of myself but after what seemed like a long, miserable winter it appears that  the flowers are at last making an appearance in the gardens around Wasaga Beach. These beautiful yellow tulips were spotted alongside a white picket fence along Shore Lane.

Wasaga Beach - At Your Service

This week we are speaking with Darlene Anstey of Coldwell Banker, Trinity Realty Inc.

Darlene Anstey has been helping people navigate the task of buying and selling homes since 1993. She is part of a Wasaga Beach dynasty, Her father Doug Anstey was also in the real estate business and from the time this town had just a few thousand people, the Anstey's were a family name you could trust. Wasaga Beach has since grown much larger, and it is no longer the type of town where a trip to the grocery store meant planning enough time to stop with your cart in every aisle to chat with everyone you knew, but Darlene Anstey still does business like it is; the old fashioned way, with a personal touch.

Guy has been a part of the fabric of Wasaga Beach for decades. His father, Giocomo Puccini bought the Beacon way back int 1946 to keep himself busy after selling his baking business "Taylor's Meat Pies" of Toronto.

The Beacon has been host to live entertainment from Big Band music to rock, to karaoke for longer than most people can remember.
