Rockin’ the House
A Local Fundraising Event, Returns to Ignite the Passion of Participants and Spectators.

Breaking Down Barriers is thrilled to announce that on Saturday March 8th, Georgian Triangle area Town Officials, local business leaders and residents will come together at the Curling Club of Collingwood for the exciting 2nd annual Rockin’ the House Curling Bonspiel.

The Curling Club of Collingwood has achieved a milestone by installing an elevator which now makes this location totally accessible to both curlers with disabilities as well as the able-bodied.

Councillor Gunter Neumann from The Town of Meaford was the first to jump on board by issuing a challenge to Councilors in the other 4 municipalities located within the Georgian Triangle including, Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Clearview and The Town of The Blue Mountains. The next challenge came from Collingwood Toyota for the other automotive dealers to follow the lead and register teams of their own. Not to be outdone, the events major media sponsor, The Collingwood Connection registered their team followed by 95.1 The Peak FM and 97.7 The Beach. Commitments also include a team from the Collingwood Accessibility Committee and many individuals living and working in our communities.

$50.00 Per person includes two games and an awesome lunch thanks to the generosity of Boston Pizza – Collingwood. Teams of four will also enjoy prizes, trophies and a huge silent auction due to sponsorship from community leaders such as; Saunders Book Company and Ontario Wheelchair. One of the Silent Auction tables will be reserved to raise funds and awareness for spinal cord research in partnership with the Canadian Spinal Research Organization.

Registration is limited and the deadline for entries is February 15th so contact Breaking Down Barriers at 705-445-1543 or visit their website at www.breakingdownbarriers.org for a registration form.

For over 22 years, Breaking Down Barriers has been successful in promoting independent living by encouraging community support and active participation of people with disabilities. The funds from this event will support the efforts of Breaking Down Barriers while they continue to provide and expand programs offered to people with disabilities in the Georgian Triangle area.

Contact Tammie Buckler at 705-445-1543, Ext. 108 for more information.
