Any
craft left in the quiet of a marina during weekdays or long storage
periods out of the water is susceptible to theft; even fenced
marinas are easily accessed by water. Many stolen items are
not even covered by insurance because they are about the same value
as the deductible, and the damage incurred by break-in can keep your
boat out of action for some time.
| The
L/MAC (Low power/Marine Alarm Control) system will
discourage vandals from spending time on your power or sail
boat, at home or foreign ports, by sounding the horns and
flashing the lights to attract attention. A 12VDC, very low
power standby ensures that shore power is not
required. |
| Alarms
are timed, then the Control Unit shuts off the horns and
lights automatically, to prevent excessive battery discharge,
and resets for another alarm. The system provides a safe
exit and entry period, as well as an instant sleep alarm,
and verification test each time you use it. The memory
function indicates if an alarm occurred while you were away.
You can used the system at the dock, while anchored or
off-season by leaving a fully charged battery on board with
the system switched ON. |
 |
| The
Control and Detector are each contained in cream white
plastic enclosures, L85xW55xT38mm (3.3x2.2x1.5in) and
L88xW70xT55mm (3.5x2.75x2.2in), which mount and wire easily
with 4 power wires and 2 wire speaker cable; the Detector
senses the sudden temperature difference (infrared) and its
motion when an intruder enters the coverage area, so that
alarms can occur before the damage that would result by
breaking contact sensors. Additional infrared detectors,
step mats, contacts, and sirens may also be used. See the
features list following.
The
L/MAC system includes: Control unit, Detector Unit, Keyless
Security Switch, Fuse and Holder, Connectors, Wire, 3 Alarm
Warning Stickers, and instructions. Consider adding a PIX-LITE
Automatic Boarding Light. |
1.) Designed for marine
environments: The
basic L/MAC2 has been carefully designed to keep operation and
installation simple, yet provide features that boaters appreciate.
We believe that many complications associated with the installation
and operation of security systems have been removed without
compromising the protection. Easy installation is important whether
you "do it yourself" or have someone else install the
unit. Portable units are easily attacked or thrown overboard.
Limited space and power, wide operating temperature, corrosion,
strong marine radio interference from adjacent boats, and efficient
area coverage are some considerations that make boating security
unique.
2.) No keys or codes to
remember: The
system uses a unique small, stainless steel, "locking
toggle" security switch which avoids having to carry
keys or find a mounting location for a keypad. Key switches and
"power hungry" keypads are usually obvious to burglars in
the limited space on a boat and can lead them to defeat the system.
3.) Self testing: This
unique feature ensures that you know your system is working each
time you use it. Other systems are turned ON and OFF without ever
knowing whether they work or not, so you must perform a functional
test regularly to verify their operation; this is a nuisance task
that is soon forgotten. The L/MAC is self testing if the Detector is
mounted such that it must be passed to turn the system OFF.
4.) Exit and entry
delays: Exit delay
causes the Control to ignore signals for a period after the system
is turned ON, to allow the user to temporarily activate contacts or
Detectors while leaving the boat or retiring for the night. Entry
delay causes the Control to wait for a period before alarming, to
allow the user time to turn the system OFF after activating contacts
or Detectors while boarding.
5.) Alarm pulsed and
time limited: Pulsing
the horns and lights and automatically turning the alarm OFF after
about 3 minutes conserves battery power so that many subsequent
alarms can occur without fear of damaging the battery. For example,
10 alarms would only require the same capacity as a light left ON
for about 2 hours. Pulsing, rather than steady noise and lights,
usually attracts more attention too. Automatic shut OFF is also an
important consideration for your slip neighbours.
6.) Resets after each
alarm to allow subsequent alarms: This
is very important in order to deter one who might leave when the
alarm starts but returns later for another try. Both the Control and
Detectors reset in the L/MAC. Other systems with door contacts may
not alarm more than once unless the contacts are re-closed when the
intruder leaves; L/MAC will reset then re-alarm until turned OFF.
Avoid contacts if subsequent alarms are required or you wish to
leave hatches open.
7.) Both horns and
lights operate: Activation
of navigation or other lights is an additional deterrent: the more
attention the burglar thinks he is causing, the more likely he is to
leave. It can be difficult to locate a sound at night but not
flashing lights; this can sometimes be the difference between and
observer calling the police, investigating or ignoring the alarm.
Horns/Sirens and lights must be 12 volts DC or you will need a slave
relay.
8.) Alarm memory: This
feature provides an indication if an alarm occurred while you were
away and also warns you that someone may still be on the boat. It
can also be used to identify the occurrence of possibly false
alarms.
9.) Instant sleep
warning: If you
have your system ON while sleeping, the alarm will sound a warning
immediately when someone enters the coverage area, then allows a
short interval to turn it OFF.
10.) No battery
worries, even during storage: A
system that requires less than 3 milliamps in stand-by can operate
for about a year without severely discharging a 12 volt, 52 amp-hour
battery. L/MAC2 requires only 1.5 milliamp, even if you add
Detectors. In cold climates a battery will not be in danger of
freezing until it is less than 1/2 capacity and the temperature is
below about -23 degrees Celsius (-10F). The Control unit will reset
if the standby supply voltage drops drastically under alarm load.
11.) Can be expanded:
Detectors - TANTYME
infrared (max 4). Sirens - TANTYME 15 watt makes a good unit for
sail boats or power boats with inadequate horns (max 4). Contacts -
normally open type (closed can be used), magnetic or step mat.
12.) Plastic cases:
Light weight. No rust.
Easily sealed with silicon rubber if necessary.
13.) Cost less than
most deductibles and
may reduce insurance rate.
14.) One year warranty. |
